Alexander’s Live, the home of entertainment in the heart of Chester, has announced that its hugely successful Northgate Folk Festival is returning for a 2024 edition this month. Celebrated at Northwest England’s foremost contemporary and experimental all-day folk fest, the event promises to introduce guests to a whole new wave of talented artists creating their own unique twist on traditional music.
This year, East London five-piece Stick In The Wheel will be headlining the festival. Applauded for the intense experiences their live shows offer, the band blends raw folk with spoken word segments, electronica and meticulous dobro guitar playing.
Multi-instrumentalist and award-winner Nick Hart will also be on stage, as well as the electro-folk artist and innovator Frankie Archer. Talent from further afield will include musician and painter Mary Elizabeth Remington, born and raised in rural Massachusetts. Other performers confirmed include the Goblin Band, Craven, Seb Stone, Brown Wimpenny and Rosie Brownhill, among many more.
Stone Club DJs will provide a soundtrack for the event in between bands exploring the relationship between folklore, music and ancient monuments carved from rock. Dance displays will also feature at the festival, as will acts like Molly No-Mates and Morris dance troupes Clerical Error and the Kinnerton Morris Men in attendance.
The Northgate Folk Festival will now be at Alexander’s Live on Saturday, August 24. The venue is located at Chester’s Rufus Court, and the event will start at 12 pm and end at 11 pm.
Tickets are available for £20 in advance and £22 on the day. The family-friendly event also offers free admission to children under the age of 12.
