Each year, the AA shortlists approximately 150 restaurants from thousands across the UK, whose wine lists offer exceptional quality and choice. Compiled by Head Sommelier, Derek Scaife, the wine list at Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor has been recognised as one of the best and has made a regular appearance on the AA Notable Wine List. This year the restaurant has made it one step further and is through to the final round of the 2019-2020 AA Wine Award sponsored by Matthew Clark.
Introduced in 1998, the award recognises an outstanding contribution to promoting wine understanding and appreciation. The winning list is one that demonstrates a wide range of grapes, countries and styles, as well as showcasing wines from the best individual growers and vintages. The AA cites “a real passion for wine and interesting areas of specialism” as a key criterion. The judges are on the look-out for the very best selection of wines to complement an equally impressive menu. In The Chester Grosvenor’s case, this comes in the form of the nationally renowned offering at Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor, which has retained a Michelin star for 29 consecutive years.
Having reached the final round of the AA Wine Award, Head Sommelier at The Chester Grosvenor, Derek Scaife, must now suggest wines from the hotel’s expertly curated list to accompany a list of courses compiled by the overall winner of the AA Wine Award 2018-2019, Adam Pledger from Park House Restaurant and Wine Bar in Cardiff.
