Chester Rolls Out Summer of Cinema

With summer heating up in the city, Chester venues are raising their game with a wide range of outdoor activities. This includes much-loved arts hub Storyhouse that has rolled out a programme of film screenings in Grosvenor Park for the season.

This season, returning and first-time visitors to Chester can relax in the verdant grounds of the city park alongside residents, and enjoy a diverse range of films from cult classics to recent releases.

Dubbed “Moonlight Flicks” the much-loved event has already screened new movies like the 2023 picture “Anyone But You” and smash hit musicals like “Mamma Mia!” and “Grease”. However, there are still plenty more titles to enjoy in the weeks ahead in August. Richard O’Brien’s sci-fi music masterpiece “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will play on August 8 with a star-studded cast led by Tim Curry in the role of Dr Frank N Furter, while August 9 will see Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction” projected.

More modern releases will follow with the box office smash “Barbie” starring Margot Robbie showing on August 17, and “Wonka” based on the beloved Roald Dahl chocolate maker playing on August 26. Film screenings mostly start at 9 pm save for Wonka, which begins at 8.15 pm with younger audiences in mind.

Those attending the summer screenings can amplify their experiences by ordering chairs to sit in for additional comfort and special drinks and dining options, which include fresh-from-the-oven hot wood-fired pizzas with a wide array of toppings.
